Debbie and Dave are local farmers from Lancaster Country. Dave owns and operates the farm, while Debbie, one of his tenants, helps out at the market. Each week they bring a wide array of flowers such as sunflowers and also various herbs such as basil and mint.

Patrick O’Neill is the owner of Big Sky Bread Bakery based in Wilmington, Del. Each week, the bakery comes to the market to sell their breads and oats cookies, the majority of which are organically made. There are also other vendors selling organic fruits and vegetables, and potted and cut plants.
Supporting local farmers is a way to support the local economy. More so than that, eating locally grown food tastes better and has more nutrients than eating food that has been shipped from great distances. Eating healthier is easier when one knows where their food is coming from. In South of South farmers markets make it easier for people to find fresh products every week.

The South and Passyunk Farmers’ Market is sponsored by FarmtoCity.org. “Farm to City is a Philadelphia-based program whose goal is to unite communities, families and farmers year-round through good locally grown food.” The Farmers’ Market is also sponsored by buylocalpa.org. This is a website designed to help the consumer find the closet local produce. By simply typing in a zip code, a list and a map of local fresh produce vendors within six miles (or more) will come up. This makes it easy to find this and other farmers’ markets in your area.
