The Mantua section of West Philadelphia has its fair share of problems, like any neighborhood. One thing that we have noticed, however, is the community outreach. Members of the community join different groups in order to help build Mantua up from the bottom and to keep it safe.
One such group, Mantua Cares, held their bi-weekly meeting last night in the Mantua-Haverford Community Center. Sitting around a cluster of tables, prominent members of the Mantua community along with around twenty teens met to discuss upcoming events with Mantua Cares. Tammi Wrice, Jean Wrice and C.B. Kimmins joined Darnell Ryans in congratulating recent high school graduates Derrick Smith and Cornell Robinson. They also discussed last Saturday's West Oak Lane's Jazz Festival. Members of the Mantua Times newsletter, run through Mantua Cares, attended the festival and will include the event in their upcoming newsletter.
Members of the Mantua community really have faith in their youth. They believe that working with the youth and building them up can only help the community, as well as the young people themselves.
