Latinos in Kensington

Latinos in Kensington

I was in Kensington on Monday to shoot my story on city transportation, and what I noticed is that it seems like Latinos make up most of the cultural population. Census data, taken from 2008, shows that the population for Kensington in below 15,000 people. The cultural communities that make up Kensington include Irish Americans, Puerto Ricans, African Americans, Dominican American and Polish American. Just from interviewing numerous amounts of people, it seemed like more than 50% of the residents that I interviewed were of Latino descent.
Massive groups of Latinos hang out outside of their homes. The groups seemed to consist of family and friends, as there were children, teenagers and adults. The Latino neighborhood inhabitants spoke mostly Spanish and listened to "Reggaeton" music. This music genre consists of influences from hip-hop and Jamaican dancehall. The artists rap and sing in both spanish and english. This form of urban music is most popular in Puerto Rico.
