“Have you seen our fields, you can’t play on them but who wants to go get hurt playing on something that looks terrible, that’s why I have my skateboard and the skate park,” said skateboarder Hakeem Brookings.
If you ever find yourself trying to find where many of the neighborhood kids are hanging out these days, don’t look at the neighborhood parks or baseball fields because most have traded in their bats and gloves for four wheels. Skateboarding has become more and more of a getaway for kids in the neighborhood because of a brand new skate park that is very attracting to them. It’s an environment that is very upbeat and extremely welcoming to everyone in the park, the sense of negativity is not in the atmosphere which makes for an even better skating experience.
The fact that skateboarding is of course less expensive than going to your local sporting goods store and purchasing expensive equipment that will have to be replaced in a year or so is a big factor. Also no one wants to be a part of something that no one will take care of like the old fields but what’s to make of the skate park when no one wants to take care of that anymore.
