North Central: Residents Weather the Storm in Good Spirits

While last week’s inclement weather was bad enough to cause a citywide whiteout and a 2-day shut down, residents of North Central remained un-phased by the record-breaking onslaught of severe winter weather.

Last Wednesday as twenty-plus inches of snow accumulated on doorsteps, sidewalks and roadways, Sharon Brooks didn’t think twice about stepping out into the storm and taking her dog Butters out for the usual walk around the neighborhood. “ I feel great, I love the snow it doesn’t bother me at all— he loves the snow, sometimes I just pick him up and throw him in it,” said Brooks.

Though meteorologists and news organizations have pegged the blizzard of 2010 as the worse winter weather the city of Philadelphia has experienced to date, life long North Central resident Brooks said she’s seen worse. “The storm in 96’ was trouble, it was hectic getting out— I think schools were closed for almost a week. ”—Brooks

Despite raging twenty-six mph winds and biting
temperatures in the low teens, some of the neighborhood youth refused to spend their snow day snowed in. Seventeen-year-old Chris Robinson and some friends from around the area still managed to come together for their routine football game at the Geasey Field complex on Temple campus.

“We’re just playin’ a little football and having some fun. We all usually come out here at least twice a week on certain days. I love the snow so the storm doesn’t really bother me,” said Robinson.
