Northern Liberties Art Culture

Northern Liberties is one neighborhood in Philadelphia that has so much potential for a lot of development in different areas of interest. Right now Northern Liberties is really big into the art scene. Many artists around the city come here or even live here to come see the different galleries and to fit in with this community. The area is gorgeous where the studios remain. Although it is still being developed daily, many people are starting to flock to this area.

R. Alexander Trejo is a fine art photographer who has a studio right in the heart of Northern Liberities on the walk. His studio is small, quaint, and appealing. It is a great location for his type of work because of the culture that resides. He has been getting a pretty good success rate out of this area. Alex Telischak, a long time friend of Trejo, talks about what type of work Trejo does. He does a lot of fine art pieces while incorporating his architecture into them as well. He does a historic collection where he makes the photos look super old fashioned, which is really a turn on to older folk who know the area. On occasion Trejo will have a guest artist for about a month or so in his studio. This is the type of thing that will attract more of a crowd. His wife also makes gorgeous jewelry that is also sold in the studio. Having a variety of art in the studio is a great way to bring in a diverse group of people.

If one were to walk around Northern Liberties a bit more, they would run into the Piazza, which is one of the main parts of Northern Liberties. In this section of the neighborhood there is a bunch of galleries, restaurants, cafes, and small shops. This area is what really attracts the people, especially during the summer. In addition to this they usually have a big screen for a movie screening, sometimes independent films. This is a big deal for many of the younger crowd over the summer nights. Sitting outside in a big city surrounded by art and food is something people adore. People will sit outside in the Piazza and enjoy one another’s company as well as the warm weather. The galleries in Northern Liberties are one large factor in the development of this neighborhood and the people that chose to live here.
