Steak & Beer deli seems like your average corner store. Located on 683 North 52nd Street, it provides small errands for the Cathedral Park community.
It did not always used to be a corner store however. Ten years ago, the property was home to the Green Room, a well-known bar in the neighborhood back then. “Oh yeah, there was always a crowd in the Green Room,” an employee of Steak & Beer said. “But there was also a lot of fighting going on. It never really was my scene.”
The employee, who wished to remain anonymous, is originally from Cambodia and works at Steak & Beer for a little over six years now. “I came to America in 1978 as a factory worker. After a few years I got fired and I’ve worked all sorts of jobs, until I got hired here,” he said.
Steak & Beer has a total of four employees, all originally from Cambodia, and is open daily from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 a.m.
