Gian Fego and Tim Graf have been standing outside a Port Richmond Wawa on Richmond and Allegheny streets all day. Next to them sits a bucket of single red roses, wrapped up with ribbons and cellophane. "Buy a flower for your lady?" asks Gian, using this uniform line for every man that walks by. Fego and Graf work at The Rose Bouquet, a flower shop several blocks away. On this Valentine's Day, the snow is a mere hindrance.
"The roads have been real bad, there are still ice patches all over my street and it's hard to drive." says Graf. "They just plowed too late in Port Richmond, and the little residential streets aren't plowed at all." The weather is a minor disturbance for Fego, who takes SEPTA to and from work. "I 'bus it' everywhere. So when Septa was down because of the weather, I wasn't going anywhere. But it's alright now."
For Fego and Graf, sales have been moderate all day, leaving them with a significant number of roses still in their bucket by 7pm. Graf will drive to his home nearby in Port Richmond while Fego braves the weather on SEPTA back to south Philadelphia.
