When college students, Dave Kislecko, Greg Diehl, Jeremy Blessing and Pat Friend, went looking for a place to rent in South Philadelphia together, they were looking for more than just four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a full kitchen.
Kislecko, Diehl and Blessing, who play together in the three-piece band, The Great Vibration, needed a place to rehearse if they were going to be able to take their band to the next level. When they found a carriage-style house on a small block of Alter St., they knew they were on to something big.
Now they’re house is known aptly as “The Carriage House.” With a stage set up in their garage, they host monthly all-ages shows for local and traveling bands and offer their rehearsal space to bands and organizations, like the Rawk U School of Music.
On their website, they post weekly material from bands they encounter such as photographs, live, unedited recordings and interviews. They hope to recreate the “olden, golden days” of rock-and-roll as best they can from their tiny, garage space in South Philadelphia.
