Susquehanna: Gearing up for the 2010 Census

With the 2010 Census making its way through America, people are strongly encouraged to complete their delivered forms and return them as soon as possible in order to be counted in this census. Recently I spoke with Jorge Gonzales or the Ramonita Negron Rivera Community Center in Susquehanna about the 2010 Census.

"In this neighborhood we have so many people who are afraid of the Census. We are doing all we can to encourage their participation and explaining to them that this is something that is important to not only our country, but to our city and neighborhood." Unfortunately though, people who live in susquehanna are extremely hesitant to participate.

"Many people who live here are scared of participating because of their individual status. Some are here illegally and it is for that reason that they do not want to be counted. They are afraid that if they are counted in the Census, that they will be found out and be forced out of this country."

With all of the hype surrounding the 2010 Census, it is important to remember that this is performed ultimately for the benefit of this country and the people who live here. By including oneself in the Census, it will aid the country as a whole. It will help with determining things such as hospitals and how they are functioning in communities, schools, etc. The Census is nothing to be afraid of, because in the long run it will only go to benefit those who call America their home.
