Walnut Hill: Trash, Be Gone!

“This is one dirty city,” exclaims crossing guard and Walnut Hill Street team member Renee Ford. “I took a picture on my cell phone of the trash laying around the train stations and parking lots. This city has rats and we are feeding them!”

Good thing that on April 10th the Walnut Hill Community Association (WHCA) is taking part in the annual Philly Spring Cleanup. Along with the Enterprise Center CDC, the WHCA will be organizing ten Walnut Hill locations on the Philly Spring Cleanup, a project that gets community members across the city involved in beautifying our neighborhoods. There is no denying it, this city needs a good clean up.

Even as you walk along Market street, a vacant parking lot looks more like a trash can than it does a lot. On April 10th, students from the University City District will happily be providing volunteers trash bags, gloves and provide trash pick up. They will even be assigning special projects for dedicated community members.

“I miss the days when littering fines were high,” admits Ford. “If you would throw your trash out of the window along Market, they used to chase you down. We need reminders and help in keeping the city clean.”

Registration for the event will be held on 50th and Walnut Streets. Come out and help beautify the city!
