Summer is in the air! For most this means enjoying some fun outdoor activities. In a city of over 1 million residents, thousands of high-rise buildings and enough concrete to cover The State of Rhode Island, it could be a problem finding some open space. Fear not, Philadelphia is home to some great parks.
Stenton Park can be located on 17th St. and Courtland Ave. The park draws in many after-school programs, including the meeting place of the Nicetown Boy’s and Girl’s Club. The park consists of basketball and soccer fields, where leagues are often hosted.
Even on a cloudy day young teenagers were found playing on the basketball court. “We love b-ball,” resident Phillip Prince says. The park has huge trees offering shade for people who just want to relax and read a book. Stenton Park also makes it accessible to take a nice jog around the corridors of the park. I was also informed that some take advantage of the park to work on their tans and sunbathe. “We like that!” Prince says with a big grin.
