Music at Rising Sun Avenue: Latino Record Shop

The Latino Record Shop of Hunting Park is located on North 5th street. The block itself is more like an island, with traffic circling on each side, and cars parked in the middle. There is music from the store doorway that flows through the streets. The corner of Rising Sun Avenue and North 5th street comes to a point, creating a unique atmosphere and community. The community-feel of the block and surrounding points of interest is enhanced by the music coming from the record shop, which is situated just behind Porky's Point, a popular Puerto Rican take-out restaurant.

The block seems to be surrounded by these two points of interest-- the food joint and the music store, which makes sense, especially since they are both also directly in the middle of the block. The music draws people in, and the sense of family and community keeps them there.

Nancy Davilla and Lewis Rodriguez, owners, have had the shop since 2006. It is family-owned and is a popular place in the neighborhood, but the customers are absolutely not limited to locals.

"We have a lot of out of state people, who are visiting, who come in because they see the commercials on television," said Nancy.

Many people park their cars in front of Porky's Place and get their food from the take-out window, and with the music coming from the record shop next door, the customers from the restaurant are often drawn in next door.
