Tioga: Meadow Lane Bar-B-Qued Chicken Serving Community for 55 Years

Philadelphia is notorious for having the best cheesesteaks in the world. For Meadow Lane Bar-B-Qued Chicken owner Sam Xinbo, ribs, chicken and barbecue sauce reign supreme in his book.

Meadow Lane Bar-B-Qued Chicken, has been serving the Tiago community since 1955. While still using the same barbeque recipe (and ovens) since opening 55 years ago, it makes Meadow Lane one of the most frequent visited spots in this Philadelphia community.

Rafael Masso has been employed at Meadow Lane for 10 years and takes pride in the restaurant. “We put our blood, sweat and tears in our food,” he says, “We are here for our customers,” he adds.

Meadow Lane serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The restaurant serves a variety of foods from breakfast wraps, to hoagies to clams. However, most of the revenue comes from other means. “People come for the chicken and ribs,” Masso says.

Tall, glass ovens are behind the counter for customers to see the chickens roasting. “We used to have the ovens at the front window, people would just come over and stare," Masso says, "You could smell the chickens cooking,” he adds with a smile.

Not only does Meadow Lane have some great food, the place gives off a home-like feel, with some great service. Masso says, “I love my job. I like coming into work, cooking, learning new recipes and the customers. Meeting new people and customers.... that makes me smile. Keeps me going every day.”
