Technology: Web Consultant Has Ties to National Constitution Center

If you've ever attended an event at the National Constitution Center without a hassle, you can thank Nancy Massey.

Massey, a Web consultant for the National Constitution Center and president of MasseyNet.com, received a call two years ago asking if she could set up a ticketing system for the Constitution Center.

“I said, ‘OK, I can do that, but it usually takes six months.’ They gave me six weeks,” she said with a laugh. “So, I did something out of sequence for the first time in my life.”

Massey’s duties when updating the ticketing system included implementing a new software system to facilitate local and national products. She said rather than following the systematic approach to the installation, she had to think creatively to complete it under the time constraint.

“I had to get the software up and running,” Massey said, “and it was like, ‘How do we keep all the balls in the air while the process is still being installed?’”

Massey said the installation was seamless, and she received the best fanfare a technology director can – silence.

“I did it so well that you’ve never even heard about it,” Massey said. “Because if it would have made the news, that meant something would have went wrong.”

Massey said her unconventional method of constructing the ticketing system speaks to how many people in the technology industry must work in today’s fast-paced culture.

“For years up to that point, it was a ‘step one, step two’ process,’” Massey said. “Sometimes, we have to keep moving even if we’re not quite ready.”
