Jahdere Scott is a member of the Walnut Hill Community Association’s Street Team, which is partnered with The Enterprise Center. Scott is one of 10 members that go around the community canvassing information to residents about local events, meetings and activities. “Today we’re out working at the community farm at 46th and Market. We have volunteers that we went out in the neighborhood and we brung them here to help us plant different tomatoes, lettuce and raspberry tress,” explains Scott. She says that the Street Team’s manager notifies them about events they can help work, the community farm ended up being one of them. “Our boss actually told us about it so that’s why we’re here,” says Scott. The work is not as easy as some of the other activities that Scott as volunteered for, however, “Everybody been helpful. You know, people been gettin’ tired but someone would pick up the slack.” Scott see’s the potential that the farm has and has seen the impact its had on the Walnut Hill community already. “It actually has helped the community a whole lot because we have people, a lot of volunteers, come out and help and some people have talked about how sweet the fruit was that came from the farm. It gives people something positive to do.” Scott has taken a lot from the work she and her team members have done on the farm. “I love it. I actually wanna start a farm of my own.”
